Introduction to Deloraine, Australia
Situated close to the northern coast of Tasmania, south of Australia's main island, Deloraine is a popular draw for tourists despite its relatively isolated location. The town makes a good base for exploring nearby attractions such as Cradle Mountain, a stunning formation nearly 5,000 feet above sea level and featuring what some say is among the best walking in the world. Hikes here take in the exquisite Dove Lake and a number of striking dolerite rock formations that offer breathtaking views. Deloraine also makes an ideal base from which to explore the Tasmanian Central Highlands, which compromises a number of protected areas with yet more pristine walks. The town itself has regularly been voted among the most attractive in the country, featuring a racecourse, good bars and restaurants by the river, and a train station with access to Hobart, the state capital.
