Introduction to Darwin - City Centre
Darwin is both the northernmost and the least populated of Australia's state capitals, but despite the relatively small size the city, it is also one of Australia's most ethnically diverse. Residents from over 50 different countries call it home, and the city's atmosphere and climate are both reminiscent of Southeast Asia. Rates at Darwin City Centre hotels can drop to as much as 50 per cent during Darwin's less busy wet season, which lasts from November and March, but temperatures usually hover around 32°C at all times of the year. The city centre, otherwise known as Darwin City, is actually one of Darwin's least populated areas despite its number of government buildings and city attractions. The Northern Territory's state museum and art gallery can be found here alongside the state Parliament House, constructed at Darwin's former post office location in 1994. Bicentennial Park boasts the best views of Darwin Harbour, while woodlands stand side by side with monsoon forests at George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens. Visit our Darwin Travel Guide
