Introduction to Colac, Australia
Set in Victoria State, on the shores of lovely Lake Colac and surrounded by ancient volcanic plains, is the small Australian city of Colac. Proclaimed a city in 1960, it’s now the agricultural and commercial hub of its region and boasts one of the oldest botanic gardens in the country, established in 1868. The nearby plains hold the largest permanent salt lake on the continent and the state’s largest natural lake, Lake Corangamite, with its plethora of bird species. Colac attracts outdoor enthusiasts for its walks and hikes, with favourite trails such as the Old Beechy Rail Trail following the old narrow gauge railway tracks to Beech Forest. Visitors touring the state via the Princes Highway, which runs through the downtown district, often stop off here, spending a few nights in Colac hotels and exploring the immediate area. The coastal region of Bass Strait and its more than 50 islands, separating mainland Australia from Tasmania, is just 40kms from the city. other spellings: colachotels, kolac hotell au, colak hote au, otelin collac, colack hotles
