Introduction to Cobram, Australia
Set in the beautiful countryside of the Murray river valley, on the border between Victoria and New South Wales states, the small town of Cobram lies on the south bank of the river itself, surrounded by wineries, dairy farms and lush fruit orchards. Finally established after the arrival in 1888 of the railway and the town’s first policeman, the pretty Victorian town was officially proclaimed as late as 1912. To celebrate its agricultural heritage, a biennial Peaches and Cream Festival is held here in late January, giving another boost to Cobram hotels after the Christmas and New Year rush. The older part of town, Mill End, is worth a look for its Victorian architecture and the surrounding smaller farming settlements of Yalloweyah, Koonoomoo and Katunga are friendly, peaceful places for a daytrip. Back in town, an early settler’s log cabin, the Victorian-era Cobran River Bridge, the original heritage home of Cobram Station and the pretty river beaches along the Murray are all worth exploring. other spellings: kobram hote, coabram hotle, cobramhotels, cobrem hotell, cobam otel
