Introduction to Ceduna, Australia
Opposite the Nuyts Archipelago, set offshore from the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, is the little port town of Ceduna, once an essential railroad hub and fishing port for the developing region during the 19th century. Now a popular beach holiday hub for its location on Murat Bay, it features sandy coves, pine-backed beaches and sheltered bays, making it a peaceful destination for a relaxing holiday. Of interest to visitors here are a number of indigenous homelands set close to the town, with aboriginal peoples making up 24 per cent of the overall population of just over 3,000. The sparkling, clean waters of the bay support a flourishing oyster industry, with Ceduna hotels full to capacity during the annual Oysterfest, held every October over a long weekend. Live concerts and performances, a gala dinner including oysters, a street parade and charity activities end with a grand fireworks display. The festival impacts on tiny, usually sleepy Ceduna Airport, bringing visitors in from as far away as Adelaide, the only city served. other spellings: cebuna hotell, ciduna otel, cedunar hote, ceduma hotle, cedunahotels
