Introduction to Cape Otway, Australia
Dramatic Cape Otway lies on the Great Ocean Road in Australia’s Victoria State, within Great Otway National Park, an area of spectacular, wild, natural beauty that has been long inhabited by the continent’s indigenous peoples. At the tip of the cape is the oldest surviving lighthouse on the Australian mainland, first lit in 1848 and warning mariners of the treacherous waters until 1994, when it was finally decommissioned. Cape Otway hotels are mainly represented by rental cottages and similar accommodations set within walking or short driving distances of the cape and its lighthouse, and close to the Great Ocean Walk as well as the Great Ocean Road. Great Otway National Park isn’t large at just 103 square kilometres, but holds a diverse range of vegetation and landscapes as well as a good number of the Australian icon, the koala. It’s a popular destination for visitors, both domestic and international, with special tours around its main places of interest easily arranged in Princetown. The area covers hinterland temperate rainforests with spectacular waterfalls as well as coastal regions in the Otway Ranges, and contains walking trails and remote beaches. other spellings: cape otwayhotels, cabe otway hotell, cape ootway otel, cape otwey hote, cape odway hotle
