Introduction to Canungra, Australia
A scenic little town right in the southeast of Queensland, close to the coast, Canungra is well placed between tourism attractions and is a major draw in its own right. Just 50 miles south of Brisbane and a bit over 20 miles from the Gold Coast, this town of just a few thousand people is a fixture on the tourist trail of this area. The town is the gateway to O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat, just a short drive away and where visitors can hand-feed exotic bird species and go hiking on a range of bush trails, one of which takes in a plane crash from 1937. Even closer is Tamborine National Park, featuring a long plateau surrounded by immaculate rainforest, waterfalls and streams. Canungra hotels are scarce in number as there is other accommodation closer to nearby attractions, but the town makes the ideal base for visitors who don't mind travelling to local sites given its size and location.
