Introduction to Canberra - Braddon
For those that think Canberra offers a pale imitation of the classic Australian getaway, then the suburb of Braddon is a good example of why it's worth venturing inland from the country's many beaches and bays. Lying north of the capital's central business district, Braddon is considered the trendy area of the city, with its intimate art galleries, cafes and bars. It's also one of the best places to go shopping in all of Canberra. Braddon's hotels are generally located on the main thoroughfare, Northbourne Avenue, running north to south close to Haig and Jandura parks, and there is a huge variety given the high number of visitors the city receives from those mostly on official function. Despite its proximity to Australia's centre of power, Braddon attracts all sorts, meaning options for dining and drinking are varied. Shopping can be done at Gorman House market, a weekly Saturday market selling crafts, antiques, second-hand goods and fresh produce. Visit our Canberra Travel Guide
