Introduction to Caloundra - Battery Hill
The community of Caloundra lies in Queensland State at the southernmost point of Australia's famous Sunshine Coast, best known for its stunning beaches and access to the Great Barrier Reef. Islands, creeks and bays surround the conurbation, and the city is divided into a number of districts including Battery Hill, a suburb located four kilometres from the downtown business district. Battery Hill hotels serve both vacationers, here for the beaches, and business travellers to the nearby commercial district. Caloundra has a variety of beaches, from safe swimming strands to wild, rough-waved rocky beaches great for surfing. The town itself is laid-back, with a somewhat retro air, a good choice of accommodation and friendly pubs, eateries and coffee shops. Seafood is a favourite here, and a good number of traditional fish and chip shops are dotted around the town and its suburbs. Nearby is the well-known Australia Zoo, founded by late and legendary Steve Irwin, and the beautiful Glass House Mountains.
