Introduction to Benalla, Australia
Situated in the interior of the state of Victoria, in southeastern Australia, Benalla is a small town built on the banks of Broken River. The centre of the town is an attractive green space within Moria Reserve, stretching across both banks of the river and featuring a number of scenic walking trails and a ceramic sculpture area developed by local artists. Further southeast, the river diffuses into a number of channels, creating a series of islands. Another major tourist draw here is the annual Rose Festival which first started in 1967 and is going stronger than ever. The Gliding Club of Victoria is based here and offers hot air ballooning and ultralights, giving passengers spectacular views of the surrounding valley and many channels of the Broken River.
