Introduction to Bega, Australia
Located close to the Victoria state border, just a few miles from the east coast of Australia, Bega in New South Wales is a small university town surrounded by creeks.

The town dates back to the mid-19th century and as such, there is a number of old listed buildings here such as Rosevaar Jeweller's shop and Bega Courthouse.

First settled for its gold more than 150 years ago, the town has since move on to cheese as its main commodity, with the local dairy factory one of the biggest manufacturers of the product in the whole of Australia.

The town features a number of parks and green spaces including Old Bega Racecourse, which is being developed into gardens by the local community.

A short drive east is Mimosa Rocks National Park, a worthwhile daytrip.

Bega hotels range in price and quality, with most situated close to the University of Wollongong.
