Introduction to Beechworth, Australia

A beautifully-preserved historic town set in the northern region of Australia’s Victoria province, Beechworth was one of the island continent’s famous gold rush centres in the mid-19th century. For five years, massive quantities of gold were uncovered, with one lucky miner riding a horse shod with pure gold horseshoes, now the emblem of the town. In the present day, far from its riotous beginnings full of villains and colourful characters including the outlaw Ned Kelly, it’s successfully reinvented itself as a wine and tourism-based destination, with many heritage buildings and an attractive town centre.
