Introduction to Ballarat - City Centre
The city of Ballarat sits about a 90-minutes drive northwest from Melbourne, in Victoria, Australia. The city's history is intertwined with Australia's gold-mining boom times, and this was once a hugely-prosperous mining community. Many of the historic buildings from the days of the gold boom remain. This is the fifth-biggest city in the country, in terms of population. Hotels in Ballarat City Centre offer excellent access to key attractions and are a great base from which to enjoy the cycling and horseback riding on trails in the Goldfields region. Sovereign Hill is a kind of local Disney park, offering the chance to experience the days of the gold rush. The city's history was cemented more than 150 years ago, when miners revolted against licence fees. The Eureka Stockade, which played host to the rebellion, today offers a rich multimedia exhibition. Fans of nature will enjoy the city's botanical centre and the wildlife park. About five miles outside of town sits the Kryal Castle Medieval theme park. The outdoors can also be enjoyed at Lake Wendouree, which is a few minutes to the west of the city centre.other spellings: ballarat cityotel, balarat hotell center, ballaret city hote, ballarathotels, bollarat hotle
