Introduction to Ballarat - Bakery Hill
The Victoria state city of Ballarat is a historic and fun former gold rush town set 110kms form the state capital of Melbourne. It's best known as the historic site of the miners' uprising at the Eureka Stockade some 150 years ago, with a sound and light show in town recreating the events. The city is split into a number of districts, with central Bakery Hill and Main Street home to heritage buildings of both national and state significance. It's a refreshingly low-rise town, with few skyscrapers spoiling the view. Ballarat is a popular visitor destination, attracting over two million tourists a year to its city centre Bakery Hill hotels. It's concentrating on heritage tourism and has a significant attraction in its Sovereign Hill open air museum, a recreated gold-mining settlement rated as one of the world's best outdoor museums. This unique attraction offers a fascinating glimpse into the city's ongoing mining history and several tours are available, including one specialising in the nearby ghost town. other spellings: bakery hillhotels, blakery hill otel, bekery hill hotell, bakcery hill hote, bakerry hill hotle
