In the very heart of Australia, Alice Springs ranks among the most isolated towns on the planet, with its red-earth rugged landscape of endless outback and remote aboriginal settlements. It's a far trek to the nearest major cities - some 1,500kms to Darwin in the north and Adelaide in the south.
