Introduction to Alexandra, Australia
The peaceful little town of Alexandra and its 2,000 residents are located at the junction of two major tourist trails in Victoria State. The Golburne Valley Highway and the Maroondah Highway give easy road access from Melbourne to the popular Mount Buller ski slopes. It’s a pretty little town, with its Timber Tramway and Museum and National Trust law courts and post office dating back to the 19th century. An agricultural centre, the town offers the annual June Truck, the Rod and Ute Show, and the Agricultural Show in November. These events draw visitors to Alexandra hotels, represented by a few pretty rental cottages on the Stonelea Country Estate. For visitors wishing to stay for a few days, there’s a horse racing club which stages regular races and the Alexandra Golf Club on Gordon Street and another at the Stonelea Country Estate, plus football matches involving the local team. Nearby towns include Buxton, Eildon, Glenburn and Murrandindi, the capital of the shire of the same name.
