The Republic of Maldives is a group of 26 atolls consisting of more than a thousand islands lying in the Indian Ocean. About 200 islands in this amazing archipelago are inhabited and the rest remain almost virginal. Incredibly beautiful resorts have been built, only one per island, since 1972 when the Republic of Maldives opened its doors to tourism.
