By air: several international and domestic airlines land at Siem Reap International Airport daily including Bangkok Airways, Lao Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Silk Air and Thai Airways. Cambodia has its own domestic airlines and there are regular flights from Phnom Penh into Siem Reap.
By boat: there are several daily boat connections between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh and also Siem Reap to Battambang. The trip to Phnom Penh takes about six hours and the trip to Battambang can take between five to eight hours depending on the weather. Boats are also available from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, a route popular with travellers, but the boats are usually poorly maintained and have no life jackets.
By road: there is a primary highway that links the Phnom Penh with the Vietnam border and on to Ho Chi Minh city. However, it takes one full day to get from Siem Reap to Ho Chi Minh City. Border checkpoints include Poipet, Cham Yeam (Thailand), Bavet, Kaam Samhar (Vietnam) and Stung Treng (Laos). Once visitors are in Phnom Penh, it takes approximately 10 hours to get to Siem Reap. Drivers must have their passport, driving license and car registration to cross the border.
