Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, is also the largest and most populous city in the country. It is located in the south-central region at the confluence of two rivers, the Tonle Sap and the Mekong. Once believed to be the most beautiful city in the region, Phnom Penh has more recently been infamous for Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge regime in the late 1970s.
