January Festivals

Victory over Genocide Day: every year on 7 January, the city marks the Vietnamese assault on Cambodia that brought to an end four years of the Khmer Rouge's regime. The day is marked with a range of exhibitions, cultural events and remembrance services.
April Festivals

New Year: The Khmer New Year is celebrated with a three-day long festival and traditionally there are different things to be done on each day, with the third day being the one for games and traditional dancing.
King's Birthday: three days of celebrations throughout Phnom Penh to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni.
October Festivals

Bonn PChum Ben (Spirits Festival): commemorates the dead and is considered to be one of the most important in the Cambodian Buddhist calendar. In the days leading to the full moon, Buddhists should visit a temple and make offerings in memory of relatives who have died.
November Festivals

Bon Om Touk: the festival, also known as the water festival, is held every year to celebrate the extraordinary fact that the Tonle Sap River flow changes direction, as a result of the rainy season causing the water levels to be very high. There are some fireworks displays and boat races involving hundreds of competing teams.
Independence Day: the anniversary of Cambodia's independence from France in 1953 is celebrated every year. There are a range of entertainments and cultural activities with a parade of colourful floats along Norodom Boulevard. At night, there are fireworks displays and some of the city's most important monuments are floodlit.
