Introduction to Ratanakiri, Cambodia
Ratanakiri is situated in northeast Cambodia and is renowned for its natural beauty and resources. There are a few hotels in Ratanakiri and the town, like the province of the same name, but it is scarcely populated. Most visitors to the area base themselves in the region's capital city Banlung and from here explore the area. Most Ratanakiri hotels can be found here but it should be noted that they are fairly basic. The surrounding countryside consists mainly of jungle and is home to 12 different ethnic minority groups. Popular excursions take you to these Khmer Loeu villages and jungle areas. Other favourite places to visit include precious stone mines, waterfalls and Yeak Laom volcanic lake. Ratanakiri hotels and guest houses can arrange English speaking guides and transport for visitors wanting to make up their own itineraries.
