Situated on the northwest shore of the stunning Nahuel Huapi Lake, Villa la Angostura is a quaint Alpine-style village. Much of the village accommodation is situated on the lakeshore, while some is close to the nearby ski resort. Their location halfway between Bariloche and San Martin de Los Andes means that Bonito River hotels are popular with those travelling between the two cities. The river is well-known for the quality of its trout, served in many of the village restaurants. Otherwise, the main attraction is its wooden one-storey houses, a lot of which host shops selling handicrafts, chocolate and deer products. The Cerro Bayo ski centre is a 10-minute drive from the Bonito River district. Here, skiers can enjoy a few weeks of snow cover each winter as well as fabulous views across Nahuel Huapi Lake. Summers are warm and pleasant, but it is still worth packing warm clothes if visiting at this time. Summer night-time temperatures can often drop below 10ºC. Travellers can get here by flying to Bariloche Airport, a one-hour drive away along the lakeshore.
