Introduction to Ushuaia - Beagle Channel
The Atlantic and Pacific oceans cross paths at the 240km long Beagle Channel in southernmost South America. Most of the channel is located in Chilean territory yet the biggest city near the channel is Ushuaia, Argentina. Beagle Channel hotels in Ushuaia fill quickly during the Tierra del Fuego peak summer tourist season. Among Ushuaia's most popular attractions are guided Beagle Channel tours, which typically take visitors past several small islands containing bird, penguin and sea lion colonies. Since 1919, Eclaireurs Light House has stood on another tiny island and it is now a common stop on most tours. Tours also offer impressive views of the old fort where Ushuaia's Maritime Museum is lodged, the Encajonado River, the Museum of the End of the World and the city's industrial area.
