Introduction to Buenos Aires - Plaza de Mayo
Plaza de Mayo is the central square in the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires and is famous for being the place where Argentina gained its independence in 1810 so is an important historical and political landmark. The plaza is considered to one of the must-visit attractions in Buenos Aires and is both beautifully landscaped and surrounded by some of the main attractions in the capital. On one side is the Cabildo building, Casa Rosada, the cathedral, May Pyramid, City Hall and the monument of General Manuel Belgrano. All of these attractions are well worth exploring. There is also the Casa de Cultura, adjacent to the Cabildo building, the home of the La Prensa newspaper. Plaza de Mayo hotels are dotted around the plaza within easy walking distance.
