Introduction to Escaldes-Engordany - City Centre
The Andorran parish of Escaldes-Engordany is made up of five districts: les Escaldes, Els Vilars d'Engordany, Engordany, El Fener and Engolasters. Best known for its yearly jazz festival, the parish has a population of around 17,000. The community sits some two kilometres northeast of the capital of the tiny principality, Andorra la Vella. Escaldes-Engordany City Centre hotels, therefore, make great bases for visitors who prefer not to stay in the sometimes busy centre of the capital. A popular activity among visitors to the parish is walking, with wonderful treks available on the outskirts, towards Pics del Pessons, Coll de Vall Civera and nearby lakes. The most notable landmark in the city centre is Sant Miquel d'Engolasters, a 12th century Romanesque church that offers guided tours to visitors. Also of architectural interest is Casa Creu, a 1930s Modernist home designed by Puig i Cadafalch.
