Introduction to Escaldes-Engordany - Caldea Thermal
Escaldes Thermal, or Caldea Thermal in English, is part of Escaldes-Engordany district in the European nation of Andorra. The district adjoins the east side of Andorra la Vella, the nation's capital. Escaldes's name originated due to the existence of a number of hot springs here. The thermal waters reach temperatures of 70°C at source. Since Roman times, the waters are believed to have curative properties. In modern times, several spas and resorts which take advantage of the sulphurous water and offer rejuvenating treatments have been constructed. The River Gran Valira flows through the district and many Caldea Thermal hotels are located close to its banks. Staying here allows holidaymakers to avail themselves of the thermal spas, yet have easy access to nearby ski slopes in winter and hiking paths in summer. There are shops and restaurants in the district. Some restaurants stage heritage Santa Anna dance performances, while among souvenirs in the shops are locally-produced woven fabrics. The 11th century Sant Miguel d'Engolaster's Church, a stone edifice housing wonderful religious artwork, is located on the edge of the district.other spellings: caldea thermalhotels, caldia thermal otel, caldeathermal hotell, caldea hote
