Introduction to El Tarter - Ski Area
El Tarter is a ski resort in the Pyrenees Mountains of Andorra, around five kilometres south of the principality's border with France. During winter, it is one of the preferred ski destinations for northern Europeans. Almost 200kms of ski runs are in the wooded areas above the village, from where lifts operate. The slopes here are suitable for skiers of all levels, and ski schools here have English speaking instructors. There is a varied choice of El Tarter hotels dotted around the ski areas, with prices to suit all budgets. Other winter activities available include dog-sledding, snowshoe walks and an igloo building course. During the summer months, El Tarter is a popular choice with hikers and outdoor aficionados. Most of the snowboard, ski and sports equipment shops, apres ski venues and restaurants are situated in the village, although some of the big accommodation options have in-house dining facilities.
